This message was sent via email to all ward members, 13 November 2024.
Dear sisters and brothers,
Church leaders have long taught the importance of self-reliance and emergency preparedness, including food storage. Recent events, such as the drought we are currently experiencing here in the New York City region, have shown us once again the importance of following church leadersโ counsel.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints produces a number of food storage items. The church sells these items by the case, with six #10 cans per case. (A #10 can is very large, with a volume of about 3 quarts, enough room for 6ยฝโ7ยฝ pounds of food.) The cost per case is between $36 and $87, which we realize can be cost-prohibitive for families in the Jamaica 1st Ward.
The Jamaica 1st Ward is working to make these items more accessible to our members. By placing a group order for the ward, our members will be able to purchase items by the can rather than the entire case. Not only will this bring the cost down significantly, but it will enable members to get only what they can store and what their families may need.
An order form with the list of church-produced food storage items is attached to this message. Each item on the form includes the weight of a single can (not the entire case) as well as the shelf life of these items (which can be up to 30 years or more).
You can use this PDF to place an order for food storage items for your family:
- Download the form to your computer or other device.
- Indicate the number of cans of each item you would like to purchase. The form will calculate the total cost automatically.
- Save the completed form and email it to bishop@jamaica1stward.org.
- Submit payment for your items to the Jamaica 1st Ward by Sunday 1 December 2024. Use a Tithing and Other Offerings form and envelope and write โFood storageโ under โOtherโ. Turn this in to a member of the bishopric just as you would tithing or fast offerings.
- The ward will place the order in early December, which will be delivered later that month or in early January. When the items arrive, we will distribute them to the ward members who ordered them.
If your order form and/or payment is not received by this date, you will not be able to place an order at this time (though we do anticipate future orders of food storage items).
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Dustin Tyler Joyce
