Stake-wide fast

Sunday 4 May

We received this message from the presidency of the Lynbrook New York Stake, which we have been asked to share with you:

At stake conference, our stake president, President Peguero, provided instruction and counsel on the law of the fast. He also stressed the importance of the members of the Lynbrook New York Stake utilizing the fast as a vehicle to invite the Spirit into our lives. Elder Brent Ward, the visiting authority, confirmed the instruction provided and offered an invitation to all members to โ€œtake seriously the next opportunity to fast.โ€ In response to Elder Wardโ€™s invitation, we have set Sunday4 May as a date for members to join in a stake-wide fast. We encourage all members to join as a stake to fast for unity. We read in Doctrine and Covenants 38:27 the Lord’s instruction, โ€œI say unto you, be one; and if ye are not one ye are not mine.โ€ Brothers and sisters, we seek spiritual strength and guidance โ€” whether for personal matters, family relationships, church callings, or simply to strengthen our faith and belief in the one true living God. We pray the Lord will bless the members with the spiritual fortification they stand in need of to meet their personal challenges.

2025 singles conference

13โ€“15 June 2025
Washington, D.C.

The 2025 DC LDS Single Adult Conference Committee invites all singles ages 31+ to gather in the nation’s capital 13โ€“15 June. This year, singles can look forward to fun activities, dances, and social sessions, unique service opportunities, and many amazing speakers on this year’s theme, “Upon this Rock: Fortifying Foundations of Faith and Friendship (Doctrine and Covenants 50:44โ€“45)”. Singles who participate in this conference will find many opportunities to strengthen their spiritual, personal, intellectual, and social foundations.

A few things to look forward to this June include an opening social at National Harbor, activities around Washington, D.C., a unique service opportunity at the Congressional Cemetery, a gala at Museum of the Bible, temple worship and sabbath meetings at the Washington D.C. Temple and Visitors Center, and special speakers Sister Kristin Yee and Elder Mathias Held. There will also be a Latin opening social with dancing and icebreaker games, and a special meeting with Elder Held for Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking singles. The committee has worked very hard to plan an event that will allow singles to meet others of similar and new backgrounds, age groups, and interests.

For those who do not live in the D.C. area, a limited number of rooms are available at Georgetown University, where a shuttle will be provided to assist with transportation. Otherwise, out-of-town travelers are encouraged to find their own accommodation or coordinate with other conference attendees through the Facebook chat or the special conference app (on Whova), which will be made available following registration.

Preparedness fair

Saturday 26 April โ–ช 11.00am
Lynbrook building

With severe weather events becoming more frequent and more extreme, it is more important than ever that New Yorkers be prepared for disasters. The New York Citizen Preparedness Training Program teaches residents to have the tools and resources to prepare for any type of disaster, respond accordingly, and recover as quickly as possible to normal conditions. This training course will provide an introduction to responding to a natural or man-made disaster. Participants will be advised on how to properly prepare for any disaster, including developing a family emergency plan and stocking up on emergency supplies. Each family that attends will receive one preparedness kit.
