Sunday School class for new members

This message was sent to all ward members via email, 16 September 2021.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Gordon B. Hinckley, president of the church from 1995 to 2008, taught that every new member of the church โ€œneeds three things: a friend, a responsibility, and nurturing with โ€˜the good word of Godโ€™ (Moro. 6:4). It is our duty and opportunity to provide these things.โ€

In an effort to better fulfill this prophetic directive, we are creating a new Sunday School class especially for new members of the church and those the full-time missionaries are currently teaching. Here are additional details:

Who should attend

  • New members (generally those baptized within the last year or so)
  • Those currently being taught by the full-time missionaries
  • Their fellowshippers, as appropriate
  • The full-time missionaries
  • Ward missionaries
  • The counselors in the elders quorum and Relief Society presidencies responsible for missionary work
  • A member of the bishopric

We encourage other ward members to continue to attend the existing Sunday School classes for English- and Haitian Creoleโ€“speaking adults and for youth.

When

  • Normal Sunday School times: during the second hour (10.10โ€“11.00am) on 1st and 3rd Sundays
  • Starting this Sunday, 19 September 2021

Where

The Relief Society room (1st floor)

What curriculum will be used

This class will use the same Come, Follow Me curriculum and lessons as the other Sunday School classes, but adapted to the needs of new members and those being taught by the full-time missionaries.

We hope this new Sunday School class will be a valued addition to our efforts as a ward to โ€œinvite all to come unto Christโ€ (Doctrine and Covenants 20:59). As always, we are open to your feedback and suggestions, and we look forward to hearing your experiences.

Sincerely,

Dustin Tyler Joyce
