Interfaith Dialogue

Tuesday 16 September โ–ช 6.00โ€“8.00pm
Jamaica building

The Queens General Assembly (QGA), an initiative of the Queens Borough Presidentโ€™s Office, is hosting its annual Interfaith Dialogue at our church building. This event will bring together leaders and neighbors from across Queens to discuss the role of faith and faith organizations in individual and community life in an open, honest, frank, and respectful way.

RSVP requested: This event is not open to the public. It is primarily for QGA delegates and alumni. However, since it is being held at our building, ward members are invited to attend and participate. We ask that everyone who will attend, QGA and church members alike, submit an RSVP here.

The event will take place in two parts:

  1. The first hour will include a panel discussion moderated by current QGA delegates with faith leaders from the Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, and Sikh communities.
  2. The second hour will consist of smaller group discussions, where attendees will be seated at tables with those of other faiths and invited to discuss the role of faith in their own lives.

Refreshments will be provided.

Church history walking tour

Saturday 27 September โ–ช 10.00am (weather permitting)
Starting from City Hall Park, Manhattan

This semiannual tour will cover some of the earliest sites of LDS history in the New York region, including:

  • Martin Harrisโ€™ 1828 visit to Charles Anton
  • Joseph Smithโ€™s 1832 visit to New York City
  • The sailing of about 240 LDS saints on one of the worldโ€™s longest religious voyages in 1846

The tour covers the New York areaโ€™s role in Latter-day Saint history from 1828 through 1858. The brochure for this tour (PDF) gives an overview of the tour and provides other details, such as the tour’s length.

So that we know we have enough tour guides and brochures, we ask that those attending to submit an RSVP to
kent.lds.larsen@gmail.com with the subject “Walking tour RSVP”.

The tour is also available as a podcast called โ€œNYC LDS Historiesโ€.
